Last year in November I reviewed the contents of a UK monthly subscription box service otherwise known as the Glowwbox. I had never been a fan of subscription services but knew that this was a KeraCare special edition box, so I was more than willing to give it a try. For those of you who don’t know I have a serious love for the KeraCare Natural Textures range and Butter cream moisturiser specifically, so I’m always open to try their products.

Fast forward four months and there are two products that I have not only repurchased but I’ve been using religiously almost every wash day! The KeraCare Hydrating Detangling Shampoo [UK, US] & KeraCare Humecto Creme Conditioner [UK, US].

Let’s start with the shampoo, the first time I used this I remember hoping my hair liked it because the smell upon opening the bottle alone was simply heavenly, I applied the shampoo as I always do to my scalp and began to rub it in with my finger pads. Whilst I wasn’t blown away at this point I did have a feeling it was a keeper, although my roots were saturated in shampoo there was an unexpected amount of slip and softness at my roots. The true test came when I rinsed the shampoo out of my hair, and waited a few minutes before applying the conditioner to observe how my hair felt. The results were amazing, no dryness or tangles, my scalp was clean, and to my surprise my strands felt exceptionally moisturised.

Besides how great my hair feels after using the shampoo, it’s worth noting it is a ph balanced sulfate-free shampoo [stated as having a ph of 6 on the bottle], it also contains some hydrolysed wheat protein for anyone looking for a shampoo which moisturises and also lightly strengthens the hair.

KeraCare Hydrating Detangling Shampoo [Sulfate-Free] Ingredients:
Aqua/Water/Eau, Amino Methyl Propanol, Disodium Cocoamidopropionate, Lauramide DEA, Sodium Trideceth 7 Carboxylic Acid, Polysorbate 20, Glycol Stearate, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Polyquaternium 10, Polyquaternium 7, Citric Acid, Tetrasodium EDTA, Fragrance, Methychloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, FD&C Yellow 5 Aluminum Lake

My love for the Humecto Creme Conditioner is just as strong, just like the shampoo it smells great and is highly moisturising. It melts onto the strands of my hair each and every time and the softness even before I throw on my Hair Therapy Wrap [UK, US] is evident. I’ve tried this conditioner with and without heat and whilst it works so much better when aided with heat, it’s still a keeper when used without.

KeraCare Humecto Creme Conditioner Ingredients:
Aqua/Water/Eau, Glycerin, Polyquaternium-37, Propylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, PPG-1 Trideceth-6, Cetearyl Alcohol, PEG-40 Castor oil, Stearalkonium Chloride, Dimethicone PEG-8 Lsostearate, Quaternium-80, Dimethicone, Panthenol, Propylene Glycol, Lamium Album Flower Extract, Pinus Sylvestris Cone Extract, Arctium Lappa Root Extract, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Hedera Helix (Ivy) Extract, Arnica Montana Flower Extract, Nasturtium Officinale Extract, Allium Sativum (Garlic) Bulb Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Tilia Cordata Flower Extract, Centaurea Cyanus Flower Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Hypericum Perforatum Extract, Fragrance/Parfum, Amyl Cinnamal, Benzyl Salicylate, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Benzyl Benzoate, Citronellol, Hexyl Cinnamal, Glutaral.

I’ve had a hard time keeping you up to date on new products because when I love something I can’t help but use it over and over again! Going forward I’ve restricted myself to using these products just once a month to give way for other products! Nevertheless these two products are staples and I know I can always fall back on them.

I wish I could for the life of me remember my first PK encounter but I can’t, all I know is that it has been a serious love story since then and this has to be one of my longest running staples! I couldn’t believe I had yet to officially review this here on the blog, so let’s just say this is exactly that – an official review!

Product: Philip Kingsley Elasticizer Extreme

Price: 150ml £27.50 Product Claims: Elasticizer Extreme is targeted at a very specific hair type: extremely dry, porous and very thirsty! Specifically formulated for African-Caribbean or Caucasian hair that is exceptionally processed and damaged, this product provides instant replenishment, hydration and nourishment.Elasticizer Extreme has all the moisturizing ingredients of Elasticizer, with higher active doses of the components that can really make a difference to very dry, porous and thirsty hair.

Ingredients: Aqua, Ricinus Communis (Castor oil) , Glycerine, Propylene Glycol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ethyl Hexyl Dimethyl PABA, Olea Europea (Olive Oil), Cetearyl Alcohol, Cetylpryidinium Chloride, Hydrolysed Elastin, Amodiethicone, Trideceth-12, Cetrimonium Chloride, Propylene Glycol, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methyl Paraben, Propyl Paraben.

My Thoughts Could it be any more obvious, I absolutely adore this product solely based on the effects it has on my hair as the price tag most certainly isn’t appealing! This product does four main things for my hair, well at least from what I notice, it softens, detangles, protects and increases elasticity. I use this product at least twice a month and upon application it instantly smooths out my hair and any tangles or knots that linger on from a long worn twist out. It literally emulates clay and conforms your hair to any shape you mold it. I’ve become so used to using this product that I find no shampoo I use after it has managed to dry out my hair to the point of worry and all in all, well, it’s a pretty great product! [Transitioners this was one of my absolutely must haves during my transition FYI!] For those wondering how far the £27.50 goes well I’ve thus far used my 150ml on 4 wash days and there is still half of the tub left, mind you I use this fortnightly as opposed to weekly as advised on the PK website!

Product Review | Mazuri Organics

Mazuri Organics Olive Oil Moroccan Oil Sheen SprayPrice: £1.69 ☆Claims: Mazuri Organics Olive Oil Moroccan Oil Sheen Spray. Contains organic Olive oil and organic Argan oil. Moroccan oil is one of the rarest and richest oils in the world, and has been long known for rejuvenating moisture in hair and skin. Rich in vitamin E, phenolic acid and carotenes, Moroccan oil is correctly called Argan Oil, an oil traditionally extracted by hand, from the fruit of the argan tree grown in Morocco, hence Moroccan oil.LYT Rating: Guys this is the best Oil Sheen Spray I have EVER used! Do you remember me mentioning a spray my sister used as air freshener because it was just that yummy? Well this is the one! Even though this product was sent as free to try, I will never say I like something if I genuinely do not. This spray is all you need in a sheen spray. Its adds the perfect gloss to dead dull looking tresses and the smell is out of this world! A bubblegum, flower all spice type scent to be precise! We (myself and my sisters) used this product in the space of 2 weeks. It became a handbag item and whats more acts as your very own hair freshener. Undoubtedly worth ❤❤❤Mazuri Organics Olive Oil Texturizer Softening Hair MudPrice: £3.99 ☆☆Claims: Mazuri Organics Olive Oil Texturizer Softening Hair Mud by Mazuri Products. It revitalizes and strengthens, moisturizes and softens, detangles and shines your hair.LYT Rating: This hair mud is meant to be used before styling your hair. I used a dime size amount on my hair and found it was too heavy a product for my freshly straightened tresses. On the other hand it worked quite well in adding a softness to a 3 day old twist out on my younger sisters natural hair. ❤

Mazuri Organics Olive Oil Texturizer Finishing Spray Price: £3.99 ☆☆Claims: Mazuri Organics Olive Oil Texturizer Finishing Spray moisturizes and defines your hair, adds shine and manageability to them and it is anti-frizz finishing spray.LYT Rating: Similar to the Oil Sheen this spray made my hair glam and shiny. It practical coated my strands with a layer of gloss. Having fallen in love with the Oil Sheen spray I must say I won’t be needing something that gives me a similar result. All in all it did add shine and aided in making my hair smoother thus more manageable. I give this product  ❤❤

My Thoughts

I accidentally came to use this product after running out of the Jane Carter Curl Defining cream which I was previously using as a daily moisturiser. I had been meaning to replace the Curl Defining Cream anyway because I thought it to be rather steep in price, especially for something I was using so often. The very first time I used the Butter Cream I was so blown away I decided I had to give it another try on another occasion, because I wasn’t convinced that the softness and shine was solely from the cream alone. It clearly was though, each and every time I use this I fall in love all over again.

The Butter Cream is a heavy moisturiser which softens the hair and gives it great shine without feeling too greasy. It’s my go to for the L.O.C Method [will fill you in on this in the next post or two], and really does a great job at sealing in moisture or at being a moisturiser to well conditioned hair itself. With regards to the smell, it’s definitely quite pleasant and the packaging is durable. I throw this into my travel case every other week and have had no spills thus far. *Touch wood!

If you’re looking for a moisturiser that has some hold then this definitely will not give you the results you are after. My hair was quick to poof when I used this in the warmer months. Whilst I didn’t mind this so much some people will, so perhaps it’s one to reach for in the colder autumn winter months a.k.a Now!

Most of the ingredients are naturally derived which I think is great. I think I’ve said enough, a definite staple! P.s. before I forget, I have used this every other day since August 2nd and still have some more of the product to go. Not too bad right?!
